Lupita Nyong'o has landed her first Vogue cover. The 31-year-old actress looks stunning in a purple and red printed Prada dress from the label's Fall 2014 RTW collection. Nyong'o, who's always so flawless with her makeup, shows off a sultry smoky eye and deep red lip color. In her interview, the 12 Years a Slave star talked about her childhood, her relationship with Somali rapper K'Naan, and being the fashion It girl we've come to love.
"Everyone said, 'Brace yourself, Lupita! Keep a granola bar in that clutch of yours!' I didn't really understand what they meant, and it was only once it was past that I realized that my body had been holding on by a thread to get through this very intense experience. Nothing can prepare you for awards season. The red carpet feels like a war zone, except you cannot fly or fight; you just have to stand there and take it," she said before adding, "I hope they don't make that the big quote! Because that would be sad! Tell them not to do that!"
The Oscar-winning starlet also opened up about how fame has changed her life including the loss of her anonymity. She knew that things would be different when she headed to the airport after attending the SAG Awards in January where she won an award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
"For a split second I looked behind me to see who they were flashing at — and it was me!" she said. "That was, I think, the beginning of the end of my anonymity."
"It just feels like the entertainment industry exploded into my life," she continued. "People who seemed so distant all of a sudden were right in front of me and recognizing me — before I recognized them!"
