You'd think that a seasoned model like Naomi Campbell would find strutting down the catwalk a complete breeze by now, but in her recent cover story for The Edit, the 44-year-old supermodel reveals that she still gets stage fright all these years later. Campbell, who seems to defy aging as she poses in styles from Lanvin, Givenchy, and Michael Kors, opens up about her new acting role in the hip hop drama Empire, not needing to justify her actions to anyone, and the fears she tries to suppress.

"I still get scared," she said about fashion shows. "I cross myself before I go onto the runway. I pray my dress isn't going to fall off."

"If you feel fear, fear will come to you," she continued. "Fear is a terrible thing to have and I've been aware of that since I was a kid. It can stop you [from] doing things in your life. I don't want fear to get hold of me."

Campbell also shares how she considers her colleagues in fashion as her extended family and cherishes those relationships that still hold strong to this day.

"It's a family within a family," she explained. "I definitely spent more time around them than around my own blood family as I was traveling and working so much. Azzedine [Alaïa] is more like a papa; Gianni [Versace] was more like a brother. If people are down, you help them up. If we are in the same town at the same time, we always have dinner. Or if I'm doing an event, my homies are coming!"

Her latest project is the #CrushEbolaNow campaign that she's launching alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Alicia Keys and Idris Elba to bring awareness and raise funds to fight the disease. In February 2015, she plans on hosting Fashion for Relief shows in New York and London to bring donations to the Ebola Survival Fund.

"[Nelson] Mandela always said to me, 'Use yourself to help other people.' I feel that now more strongly than ever before and I try to do that in the best way I can," she said.
