At the top of 2015, Jourdan Dunn became the second Black model in more than a decade to cover British Vogue solo, so it’s only fitting that she wrap up the year with another incredible honor. The 25-year-old British supermodel won the prestigious Model of the Year title at the 2015 British Fashion Awards on Monday (November 23). She first won the award in 2008.
The leggy London native wore a backless black-and-white gown with silver sandals, and wore her caramel-kissed hair in a sharp asymmetrical bob. In her acceptance speech, overcome with emotion, she shared, “Thank you to my mum and my son, Riley, who wanted me to stay in bed and watch TV with him, tonight. This is for him.” Aww!
“Pendulum” singer FKA Twigs was another big winner, taking home the the British Style Award, which was voted on by the public. Thanking her own mom, she told the star-studded crowd, “I would like to dedicate this award to my mum because she used to make clothes that she wore and I wore. I used to want just a tenth of what she had — people used to look at her in the street because she looked so great.”
Congrats to both ladies on the stellar wins!
