On Election Eve, It's Down to the Wire

President Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney are in a frenetic race across the nation in an effort to woo and win over undecided voters in the battlegrounds. Their families, chief surrogates and favorite musical acts are also hitting the campaign trail in the final hours, and for good reason, too. According to most of the latest polls, the candidates are too close for comfort with just a few points separating them.

A new poll from CNN/ORC International shows that 49 percent of likely voters support Obama and 49 percent back Romney. The new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll presents a similar scenario, with Obama leading Romney by 48 to 47 percent. And in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, the candidates are essentially deadlocked, with Obama ahead by 49 to 48 percent.

In Ohio, the president has the edge by 48 to 44 percent, according to the results of a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Sunday. Ohio is a must-win for either candidate, but perhaps more so for Romney. No Republican has ever won the White House without also winning Ohio. Leaving nothing to chance, both camps have unleashed thousands of volunteers in the Buckeye State to get out much-needed votes.
