Sudan

Sudan made international headlines, beginning in 2004, when the government was accused of arming the country’s Janjaweed militia, who employed a scorched earth campaign in the Western Sudanese territory of Darfur. Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is also accused of ordering the attack on civilians in the disputed Abyei territory, and the states of South Kordofan and Blue Nile all near South Sudan.
