Inspired by a 2011 Google event in Lagos, Nigeria, Chike Maduegbuna, CEO of Fans Connect Online, guided his development team as they took on the flourishing African entertainment industry, namely Nollywood. Afrinolly, a mobile application that allows users to stream African film trailers, music videos, online comedy, celebrity news and gossip, was launched three months later in August 2011.
