Puerto Rico: Luisa Capetillo

Feminist and labor leader Luisa Capetillo is one of Puerto Rico’s most reputable labor organizers. Capetillo pressured her union to support a policy of women’s suffrage, but what got her thrown into jail for about 10 years in 1919 was a far simpler, illegal act at the time: wearing pants.
