Pakistan: Malala Yousafzai

As an adolescent living in a town where girls were banned from attending school, Malala Yousafzai advocated education for girls in a blog anonymously for BBC and in a New York Times documentary. Despite being shot in the head in 2012 in an assassination attempt by the Taliban in 2012, the 16-year-old Nobel Peace Prize nominee continues to speak internationally on the importance of access to education.
