In July 2013, Eric Ohena Lembembe, an outspoken gay rights activist in Cameroon, was tortured and killed in his home. As a journalist and executive director of CAMFAIDS, a human rights organization, he documented hate crimes against Cameroon’s gay community. He had issued a public warning about “anti-gay thugs” weeks before his death.
