Scores Drown After Boat Sinks

On June 2, 2011, more than 800 migrants, mainly from sub-Saharan Africa, were also on their way to Lampedusa from Libya when their boat capsized and sank off the Tunisian coast, about 19 miles away from the coveted destination. While nearly 600 people were rescued from the ill-fated boat, those reported missing — more than 200 people — were presumed dead.
