Mandela Marathon Marks 50 Years 

Hundreds of athletes pounded the pavement in South Africa on Sunday to take part in the first Mandela Day Marathon to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s “long run to freedom.” The run began near the site where Mandela gave his last public speech in 1961 before he was arrested the following year.
