Brazil Gets First Black Supreme Court President

Joaquim Barbosa became Brazil’s first Black person to serve as president of the country’s supreme court when he was sworn in Thursday. Barbosa was also the first Black person to ever serve on the court when he joined it in 2003. Brazil is home to the largest population of Black people in the Western hemisphere.
