Leaders Sign Congo Peace Deal
Presidents and representatives of 11 countries in Africa’s Great Lakes region signed a peace deal at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Sunday. The agreement, signed by the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, could lead to the creation of a special U.N. intervention force that will work to combat rebel groups in Eastern DRC.
