U.N. Body Agrees on Women's Rights Declaration
The U.N. Commission on the Status of Women agreed on a controversial declaration which calls for an end to violence against women and girls and includes references to women's sexual and reproductive rights that concerned many conservative Muslim countries and the Vatican.
Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Libya, Nigeria and Sudan, along with Honduras and the Vatican, expressed reservations about the declaration, but did not block its adoption. (Photo: AP Photo/Jerome Delay-file)
