Tension Between North Korea, South Korea and the U.S. Grows

North Korea says the armistice agreement that ended the Korean War in a truce in 1953 is now “a dead paper,” according to a North Korean newspaper. With the armistice no longer in place, the two sides can resume hostilities if they choose. The U.S. and South Korea’s military have resumed annual drilling despite the threats.
