Tree Loss Rate Slows in African Rain Forest

Scientists were surprised to discover that deforestation in Africa’s Congo Basin, one of the world’s largest rain forest, has “slowed dramatically,” according to a new study. Researchers attributed the decline to the continent’s current emphasis on mining and oil, as opposed to commercial agriculture, which requires forest clearing.
