South African Opera Star Sees a Major Career Boost

Driven by her love of opera, singer Pumeza Matshikiza has broken down many cultural barriers on her way to becoming one of the genre’s most-acclaimed newcomers. Born and raised in a Cape Town township, the 34-year-old soprano recently signed with Decca, a London-based label known for launching the careers of opera stars like Luciano Pavarotti and Joan Sutherland.
