The National AIDS Memorial Quilt: Connecting Panels of Hope and Healing

The National AIDS Memorial Quilt is the largest ongoing community arts project in the world containing more than 44,000 colorful panels memorializing the life of persons lost to AIDS.

Here, a panel of the quilt is dedicated to African-American tennis legend Arthur Ashe, who died from AIDS-related pneumonia in 1993. Ashe holds the title as the only Black man to win a singles title at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and Australian Open.
