Minnie Riperton
Singer Minnie Riperton, the mother of Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph, entranced audiences with her 1975 hit “Lovin’ You.” In 1976, Riperton announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy. The treatment was unsuccessful and on July 12, 1979, she passed away at 31-years-old.
