West Nile and Meningitis Outbreaks

More than 5,000 people have been diagnosed with the West Nile virus and 243 people have died from complications of it this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Also, more than three dozen people died from fungal meningitis — inflammation of the lining surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
