Charles Drew (1904-1950)

Not only was he the first African-American to graduate in medicine from Columbia University, this blood plasma specialist was the major pioneer in blood transfusions. Over the years, Drew became the head of the Red Cross and also broke down barriers to the racial segregation of blood donation policies.
