Control Your Cholesterol

Your body needs some cholesterol, a waxy, fat-like substance, to function properly, but too much cholesterol, present in items like fried foods and red meat, will force your body to store it in your arteries and increase your risk for heart disease. Starting at age 20, the ABC recommends a doctor check your body for HDL ("good" cholesterol) and LDL ("bad" cholesterol) at least every five years. (Photo: GettyImages)
