Who Can Do It? - CrossFit is advertised as being for everyone, regardless of age, gender and fitness level. But given that these workouts are intense, it’s best to consult your doctor before trying it, especially if you have heart disease, diabetes or back issues. Not to mention, if you are a beginner it’s important to talk to your CrossFit trainer about your limitations. (Photo: GettyImages)

What to Expect - CrossFit is not like taking an emotionally “feel good class” like Zumba. CrossFit coaches are in your face and push you harder than you can ever push yourself. Because CrossFit forces you to use almost every muscle in your body — especially those you haven’t worked in a while — you are going to be sore. Get those Epsom salts ready. (Photo: GettyImages)

The Pros - You can transform your body; there are trainers there to help reduce your risk of injury; the competition aspect can be a big motivator; and you are surrounded by people rooting for you. Also, because the workout is so intense, you could keep burning calories for 24-48 hours after the workout. (Photo: Marvin Joseph/The Washington Post)

The Cons - Yes, CrossFit might be insanely fun, but its biggest complaint is the high risk of injury from lifting heavy weights. Also some people complain about the randomness of the workouts and the cost is high — a monthly membership to a CrossFit gym can cost you on average between $150-$200 a month.  (Photo: GettyImages)
