The Link Between Race, Diabetes and Dementia

Dementia, the decline of one’s mental abilities as they age, affects African-Americans and Native Americans higher than other groups of color, says a recent study. Blacks are 44 percent more likely to develop this illness, with 20 percent of those in the study showing some sort of decline over the 10-year study. Researchers believe that higher rates of diabetes may play a factor.
