Jada Pinkett-Smith isn't shy about dishing out some powerful advice over social media, but when it comes to her own relationship, she says she keeps it in the family. The actress, who's currently gracing the July issue of Redbook magazine, shared her reasons for not going to friends for relationship advice and what would make her divorce husband Will Smith.
"It is dangerous. Intimacy is a very complicated thing. There is nothing I could ever say to anyone that would give them a clear understanding of what happens between us — so why get anyone involved?" Pinkett-Smith explained. "[Will and I] work all that out with each other; that's part of being in an intimate relationship. If you are giving your life to someone and this is the only person you deeply love, then you should be able to come to that person with anything. There shouldn't be a person I need to talk to outside of him. And I don't want my friends, who have a great affinity for both of us, to feel like they have to take sides."
She did ponder over what could possibly make her leave Will and revealed that her kids come above all — husband included.
"What is the thing that Will could do that would make me not love him? That would make me abandon him? I can't think of one. I'm sorry," she said. "Except if he did something bad to the kids — now we've got a problem. But that's it. We've had such an extraordinary life together."
The couple has such a commitment to each other and surely Pinkett-Smith's stance on relationships, respect for one another, and avoiding unnecessary drama has worked wonders on the success of her marriage. Still, she's not immune to hurtful rumors and says that she's seen marriages fall apart over gossip.
"It is cruel. At the end of the day, all that matters is: Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror? That is it, baby."
