The media mogul says her brain couldn't handle any more stimulation.
Oprah Winfrey does so much — acting, getting A-list celebs to pour their hearts out to her, running an entire television network — that we often wonder how one person can manage it all. Turns out even the 59-year-old media mogul gets burned out as Winfrey revealed during an interview with Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson. Earlier this year, she said she came close to experiencing a nervous breakdown and only realized what was happening while interviewing Kony 2012 director Jason Russell, who had a public meltdown in March 2012 and was caught naked and stopping traffic in San Diego.
"I was sitting and listening to Jason Russell describe his symptoms.… Saying, 'Um, this sounds pretty familiar to me.' In the beginning, it was just sort of speeding and a kind of numbness and going from one thing to the next thing to the next thing. I will tell you when I realized that I thought, 'All right, if I don't calm down I'm gonna be in serious trouble,'" she revealed.
"I was in the middle of doing voice-overs, you know? And I remember closing my eyes in between each page because looking at the page and the words at the same time were too much stimulation for my brain," Winfrey continued.
Luckily, The Butler star was able to recognize that she was taking on too much and needed to take a step back. She adds that she wasn't about to go running through the streets naked, but that she couldn't take any more stimulation and had to take some time for herself.
