Selita Ebanks Opens Up About Lessons Learned From Past Relationships

The model talks about developing thick skin after her engagement with Nick Cannon.

We might still remember the days when Selita Ebanks was cuddling up with Nick Cannon long before the comedian settled down with Mariah Carey, but the model has lived and learned and happily moved on from that time in her life. In a recent interview with Power 105.1's the Breakfast Club, the 30-year-old opened up about what she learned from her relationship with Cannon.
"That was a long time ago, I was very young, he was young," Ebanks said. "Everything happens for a reason. It taught me a lot especially with media because y'all were very brutal."
Ebanks and Cannon were engaged for five months and the subsequent criticism is what led her to develop a thicker skin. She added that thanks to that experience she can now handle negative comments without letting them seep in.
"I was called everything under the sun just for getting engaged. But I was very young and it was a lesson that I needed to learn to help me develop very thick skin, so now I just don't give a s--t."
Ebanks was also linked to Terrence J, but the couple called it quits earlier this year. Turns out they were each headed in different directions with their careers and decided to focus on their goals instead of holding each other back.
"Everything has its time and its course," she said. "He had to move on. He went to LA, he's doing bigger and better things, E! News doing it big, shout out to him. It was a lot of things. I had to focus more on my acting. We just decided to do our own thing."
"At times in relationships people tend to put the other person in front of them and they lose focus on what they need to do, so I think a little bit of that was happening."
