Common Says He Almost Married Serena Williams

The rapper covers Uptown magazine alongside Williams's BFF Selita Ebanks.

Common seems to be getting seduced by the lovely Selita Ebanks on the cover of Uptown magazine's August/September issue, but the rapper/actor still has his ex on his mind. In his interview, Common opened up about his image, giving back to Chicago youth and how he almost married ex-girlfriend Serena Williams. The man had it so bad, he's still licking his wounds from the breakup and taking his time before committing to someone that fiercely.
"If I'm in it as much as I was with Serena, as much as I loved her…it takes time to heal and find that peace to be able to move on," Common said.
It's interesting to note that Ebanks is Williams's best friend, but Common laughs off the hot poses with the model knowing that it's all just an act. He also addressed his status as a sex symbol, saying he enjoys the attention, but isn't diving into the label.
"It's not what I reach for, but I like women, so I'm not running away from it," he said. "But I'm not running out saying, 'Hey let me get my eyebrows arched' or whatever sex symbols do."
With his 10th album, Nobody's Smiling, Common hopes to create a wake up call and bring the attention on Chicago youth. With a history of being this close to violent acts and losing friends caught in the crossfires, Common wishes to bring something good to his hometown.
"One way of giving back is by having young Chicago artists on the album. This album is an action to increase awareness to people in the city. I owe it to Chicago," he said.
