Nicki Minaj Gets Emotional About Ex-Boyfriend During Interview

The rapper describes how much Safaree "Scaff Beezy" Samuels meant to her.

Nicki Minaj might come across as a tough cookie, but let’s not forget that the rapper has a soft side to her, too. During a recent visit with Angie Martinez on Power 105.1, Minaj let her emotions come out when she began talking about her breakup with Safaree “Scaff Beezy” Samuels and how hard it’s been to function without the man she’s loved for the past 15 years.

"My relationship was based off of love, and there still is nothing but love there," she said. "This is not some person I picked up off the street. This is somebody I grew up with. Like, I don’t even know how I’m gonna function without that person in my life. I’ve never lived my life as a famous person without him.”

While describing how much Samuels meant to her, Minaj broke down, prompting Martinez to go on a commercial break. When they returned on air, The Pinkprint emcee explained that having a relationship and then having it fall apart while in the spotlight has been incredibly difficult and had she not found fame, they probably would have been married with kids right now.

"I don’t think people realize it’s not just a relationship or breakup. That was a humongous part of my life,” she continued. “It is something that I am dealing with publicly and it’s not easy. I’m also not gonna joke about it or try to disrespect him and try to act like he didn’t mean the world to me and still doesn’t mean the world to me. I’m just figuring it out.”
