Father's Day Tribute: Rev Run
According to Rev Run, “Being a dad is actually being there. It’s almost like in my mind you’re behind them and you’re in front of them, but you’re kind of invisible as they get older.”
Joseph Simmons, also known as Rev Run, is a father, husband, rapper and minister. Rev describes his experience with fatherhood as “exhilarating.” He says, “It became part of my life; something makes me gravitate towards being a strong father.”
Rev goes on to say, “I love working with my kids. I love being with them. They’re respectful, but at the same time I give them lots of room.”
“The bible says teach your child as they should go and when they get older they won’t depart from it,” Rev says. “So I stand on verses like that to let them do what they want to do and then come back to Jesus.”
The perfect Father’s Day for Rev Run is as simple as just being with all his kids. He shares, “If I can be with all of them throughout the day, I’m satisfied.”
Rev describes the feeling of walking in the door and hearing your kids shout “Daddy” as they rush to greet you as one of the best things about being a dad. He says, “There’s something the matter with the man that comes home and doesn’t hear cheers from everybody. Even the dog is supposed to get excited when daddy comes home.”
