H.I.S. BET is the new destination for Black men.
H.I.S BET went to Morehouse College on Sept. 19 for its first ever town hall meeting at the historic black institution. The town hall, titled “Reclaim: Changing the Narrative of the Black Man in Media,” was narrated by Morehouse alum and political commentator Marc Lamont Hill. The panelists included Hosea Chanchez, Dr. David Wall Rice, Dr. Bryant Marks, Alonzo Mourning, Chaka Zulu, Dr. Raphael Warnock and David Banner, an array of men who make up different facets of entertainment, education, politics and professional sports. The town hall, which took place at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center, was followed by a discussion with the audience, moderated by journalist Jeff Johnson.
“We created H.I.S. BET to expand our commitment to promoting positive images of men of color. Recent events have confirmed what we already knew; the public perception of African-American men is seriously damaged," says Louis Carr, President of Broadcast Media Sales, BET Networks. "Together, as a community. we can do something about that. Friday’s H.I.S. BET Town Hall is a forum to further the discussion through honest dialogue with the young men who will set the tone for the future.”
