How Christina Milian Learned to Overcome Anxiety

The actress/singer took an unconventional path.

It’s easy to think celebrities live in a world of champagne wishes and caviar dreams, but there’s no ignoring that they’re human just like the rest of us. Christina Milian opens up about her own insecurities in the Winter issue of New You, revealing her past struggles with anxiety.

“I used to be afraid of everything. Running out of money, not being good at something, being nervous,” the 34-year-old singer/actress said. Believe it or not, she says competing on Dancing With the Stars in 2013 — in front of an audience of millions — really helped her break out of her shell.

“When I started to try things that I was scared of, like Dancing With the Stars, I found it was never as bad as I thought. The trials and tribulations in my personal life are enough for me to say, 'OK, get over your fears and just go for it. There is nothing stopping you.’ ”

Aside from facing her fears head on, the Grandfathered actress counts her strong family support system, including ex-husband The-Dream, for keeping her balanced and motivated to pursue her dreams.

“My daughter’s dad and I have a friendship that is way beyond the relationship we had. Now, we get along as friends and know each other that way.”
