Draya Michele Shows Off Her Comedic Chops in a Bikini for HPNOTIQ

Plus, she talks cocktails and New Year’s resolutions with BET.com.

The evolution of Draya Michele continues.
Since leaving the cast of Basketball Wives LA this year after four seasons, she’s stayed plenty busy growing her personal brand. Her swimsuit company, Mint Swim, is a celeb favorite and continues to expand its offerings, all while she’s been hard at work growing her acting portfolio, too.

Her latest starring role is that of fab philosopher in a hilarious new video campaign for Hpnotiq liqueur. Shot like a moody short film, she dons a sexy light blue bikini and silk robe (assumingly from her own collection) and waxes poetic about “blue-daisms.” Her sassiness is on high as she stalks around a Hollywood Hills mansion in sky-high heels while delivering some truly laughable lines. Clearly, not taking herself too seriously is the name of the game for this rising star.

In an exclusive interview with BET.com, she says a partnership with Hpnotiq was a perfect fit.  “I like that it’s considered a classic brand but that it has still been able to be brought back as new and fresh, which is how I want to be represented. I love that it's classic, something that can be refreshed at any time, and made to look new. That way, it remains timeless.”

She’s also a longtime fan of the drink, she says, adding that her favorite way to imbibe is over ice or as a cocktail mixed with Hennessy cognac, best known as The Incredible Hulk. “The Incredible Hulk is something that I started drinking moreso within the last year. I was way too young to do so when it first came about, but I still remember the iconic blue drink turning green.”

Her commercial spot coincides with the famous blue liqueur brand’s #Since2001 campaign. On how she has grown since 2001, she said that it’s been a long yet rewarding journey. “Considering I was a teenager in 2001, I would say a lot has changed,” she said.

“I remember I couldn’t wait to grow up and become an adult and see what I would become and where my life would take me. My 20s were really fun and I did a lot of learning through these years. I didn’t find out who I was or what I wanted to do until I was about 27 years old. I would say 27 through 29 were the best years of my life.”

Looking ahead, though, she said 2016 is shaping up to be pretty great, too. “2016 is going to be a big year for me and Mint Swim! I’m going to launch a lot of new styles, with different colors and patterns. I’m all about mixing prints and solids, so my fans will be sure to see a whole new look this year.” And if you’re looking to emulate Michele’s style, try snagging a bottle of Glow Perfume for Women by Jennifer Lopez, her favorite celebrity throwback scent, and sip some Hpnotiq while chilling out to the sounds of her favorite crooner, Jeremih.
And what’s at the top of her New Year’s resolutions, you ask? “Stop eating fast food,” she said. Girl, we know, the struggle is too real.
