Reggae artist Buju Banton has enlisted high-profile defense attorney, David Oscar Markus to defend him on cocaine distribution charges that were filed against Buju in December of 2009.

Markus, who’s currently recognized as one of Florida’s top lawyers, has seen an immense amount of success throughout his years in practice. Banton’s label issued a statement saying, “Gargamel Music, Inc. is pleased to announce that top federal criminal defense attorney, David Oscar Markus, has officially been retained to defend four-time Grammy-nominated Reggae icon, Buju Banton, against the trumped-up drug charges currently being levied against him by the United States government.

Without hesitation, Markus has already come to the defense of his client stating the charges filed against Banton are completely false. "Buju is innocent- plain and simple,” said Markus. “He was set up from the jump by some evil people trying to take advantage of his trusting and honest character. We are all looking forward to getting him out of prison so that he can move forward with his stellar music career.

Earlier this week, authorities transferred Banton to another facility in Tampa, Florida and is scheduled in front of the US District Court for the Middle District Of Florida on Thursday.
