The role of women in hip-hop has been one of the most highly debated topics for years. That is why on Aug. 30, BET will air its first-ever original music documentary special, "My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women In Hip Hop."

Featuring in-depth interviews with music executives, journalists and artists, including prominent female MCs such as MC Lyte, Missy Elliott and Eve, this documentary explores how rap music has affected female MCs of the past and present.

This special examines gender-specific differences in artistry, marketing, promotion and economics. It reveals much about the industry and the truths about hip-hop and women that many in the community don't want to address.

“This is a story that could not be told by one voice. It required a chorus. And although this story is comprehensive, it is still likely one of many truths about the role of women in hip-hop,” said Stephen Hill, President of Music Programming and Specials.

"My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women In Hip Hop" features Missy Elliott, EVE, Trina, Rah Digga, MC Lyte, Yo Yo, Questlove, along with hip-hop moguls Jermaine Dupri, Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles and many more. Be sure to tune in to this revealing documentary when it premieres on August 30 at 10:00 PM EST on BET.
