The littlest hit factory Willow Smith is back today with a new soon-to-be-smash single called "21st Century Girl." The track is a very of-the-moment electronic dance floor anthem that retains the youthful but extraordinarily self-confident themes of her first hit, "Whip My Hair."
"I set the boundaries, the rules don't own me / I'm living life on the edge, I choose my path," Smith sings.
In what seems to be the mold for Willow, the song aims to position her as the face of a new generation of kids and pop stars, but also hews closely to established pop paradigms. Whereas "Whip My Hair" could have been torn straight from a Beyoncé album, "21st Century" at times evokes white-hot chart queens KE$HA and Katy Perry.
"I'm the type of girl that likes to rock the beat," goes one sly refrain.
