Piers Morgan Wants Lil' Wayne Interview

The CNN talk show host gives props to rappers, looking for chat with Weezy.

As the new face of prime-time talk television on CNN, Piers Morgan is always chasing the most intriguing stars for an interview. Yesterday (April 13) the popular journalist told entertainment blog site GyantUnplugged.com that he has an affinity for rappers and that hip hop superstar Lil' Wayne is high on his list of future interviews.

Appearing at a press conference with Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandell and Nick Cannon to promote NBC’s talent competition America’s Got Talent, where he serves as a judge, Morgan answered a question about whether or not he’d like to interview Lil' Wayne affirmatively, before going on to explain why rappers are interesting subjects for him.

“I did 50 Cent for GQ magazine and that was great,” says Morgan. “He was fascinating. I’ve met them all actually. I’ve had dinner with Jay-Z. They’re all very impressive guys. They’ve all broken out from pretty appalling upbringings to build these amazing empires and I admire them all, Pharrell Williams, Jay-Z, 50 Cent.”

Morgan, who is now hosting CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight in the slot previously occupied by the long-running Larry King Live, indicated that his admiration comes from their resilience, evident in their ability to achieve the same success as their more privileged counterparts, namely artists like Coldplay.

“[Their] culture is really interesting because they’re not like the average kind of middle class white boy from Coldplay who’s in a big...castle with a silver spoon in his mouth, so when I did 50 Cent I found it a compelling story” he told Gyant.

Morgan may well get his Weezy interview when the rapper likely goes on a media tour to promote his much-anticipated album Carter IV, later this year.
