Lupe Fiasco Lashes Out at Blogs

The Chicago MC says the Internet is a distraction, and he singles out one specific site that leaked his music.

Outtakes from Lupe Fiasco's XXL interview, where he was featured on the cover of the magazine's current issue, have found their way online, revealing the rapper's feelings about the Internet. Lupe opens up and talks about how the blogs and their practice of "leaking" music has affected his career.

Lupe specifically addressed the blogs that leak music. One such blog was 2dopeboyz.com, a very popular hip hop blog that Lupe accused of getting a hold of cuts from his latest album, Lasers, a little too quickly. Rumors swirled that Lupe and the site's lead blogger got into an altercation recently.

"Don’t steal. The dude from 2Dopeboyz had 'Beaming' on his laptop. He had songs off Lasers and this was last spring. You going back a full year," said Lupe.

Still, Lupe admits that the blogs have been essential in promoting hip hop, but at the same time, they've made the game a level-playing field for everyone.

"As professionals, we want to be on WorldStar and the blogs, too, but everyone is there, so you have guys who play for free mingling with dudes who get paid to play."

As a whole, the rapper talked about the Internet and how addictive it is to some. He said, "Sometimes I wish I never found the Internet. Sometimes I regret getting a laptop and Wi-Fi for logging into the Internet because it is such a distraction. If you have any addictive personality, the Internet will magnify it. You have to be careful on the Internet."
