Grammy nominated and BET Award–winning singer/songwriter Musiq Soulchild is back with his sixth studio album, MusiqInTheMagiq.
Many felt the child of soul had fallen off with his last couple of projects, but Musiq disputes the notion that the suggested drop-off was the result of experimenting with his sound.
"Let's say on my album OnMyRadio. The song "Radio." I wasn't necessarily experimenting. I was just doing something according to what I was hearing on the radio. I had just moved to Atlanta. That was the sound. You know what I'm saying? I wasn't experimenting, it's just that I guess people weren't prepared to accept that from me. It was weird because I hear this stuff on the radio all the time, but when I do it, it's not right. I don't know, but what I would like to encourage people to do is not to just focus so much on the singles. It's an entire album of music. So if you ain't really dig the single so much, well go listen to the rest of the album. There may be something on there that you like."
There is definitely plenty to be liked when it comes to his new LP. Musiq really takes fans on a journey of love, lust and frienship; all reminiscent of his platinum-selling debut album, Aijuswanaseing.
In this exclusive BET.com interview, Musiq also discusses whether or not neo-soul is dead, his quest to write a song for every possible relationship situation, being secure in relationships, what other R&B cats he would form a supergroup with if he could and more.
