Missy Elliot, Mary J. Blige, Ice Cube Go Behind the Music

A new season of the VH1 music documentary show spotlights the top stars.

Get ready to go behind the scenes with your favorite hip hop artists now that VH1 has revived their documentary series "Behind the Music."

According to the LA Times, the series which has profiled more than 200 musicians and events since it's inception in 1997 will deliver a new season of your favorite contemporary artist going under the microscope. The latest season kicks off June 29, at 10 p.m. with an episode on rapper Missy Elliot, who addresses rumors about her weight and opens up about being sexually molested as a child.

"Missy was great and very candid," said Brad Abramson, series executive producer. "She talked for the first time about her [near fatal bout with] Graves disease, which she's been battling for the last few years, and spoke in detail about the sexual abuse she experienced as a child."

Ice Cube and Mary J. Blige (who has already been featured on the show in 2001) will be examined on episodes this season. Other artists who've been covered in the recent past include Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Lil Wayne, and T.I.
