Since it was made available last Monday at 12:01 A.M., Jay-Z and Kanye West's blockbuster collaboration album Watch the Throne has sold over 290,000 copies on iTunes alone, breaking the digital distributor's previous one-week sales record.

Watch the Throne took iTunes by storm when it was made exclusively available from the Apple-owned retailer for its first four days. After day one, it rocketed to the top of the charts in 23 countries. Last Friday, physical copies were released to retailers, with a deluxe version going exclusively to Best Buy.

The total first week tally for Jay and Ye's opus will be released Wednesday (August 17), with early estimates suggesting that the album will have moved around 500,000 copies. On iTunes, the previous first week sales record belonged to Coldplay, who sold 282,000 copies of Viva La Vida in 2008.
