Nicki Minaj Debuts 'Fly' Video, Director Sanaa Hamri Calls It A 'Favorite'

Minaj is out of this world with Rihanna.

Along with wearing her dessert as an outfit during MTV's Video Music Awards, Nicki Minaj debuted a new video for her emotional single "Fly." BET spoke to the clip's director Sanaa Hamri about what it was like working with the Queens MC.

"It was a really interesting thing and it was my first time working with Nicki Minaj," Hamri shared. "She wanted to work with a film director and I’ve also directed music videos before. She wanted an epic vision."

Hamri, who directed the Sanaa Lathan-led "Something New" and Barbie's latest "Super Bass" clip, says Nicki caught her in her home country of Morroco just before she headed back to another job.

"I was about to hop on the set for 'Shameless,' which I direct for Showtime, and we had a great conversation about ‘Fly’ and what it means," Hamri says. "How you’re like a sphinx and there’s rebirth and people can be able to get up and start all over again. We really connected on that concept. We shot the video in Los Angeles. It has very powerful imagery and it’s my favorite video that I’ve directed."

"Fly" is Minaj's fifth video from her successful debut album Pink Friday.
