Actress Taraji P. Henson spilled a secret at last week’s Sixth Annual Black Girls Rock Awards in New York City: She wants to be a singer. “I just signed a contract for a record deal. I did, but it has to be something special. I’m not interested in disposable music,” she told Billboard. “I believe people want to hear it, so you have to give the people what they want.”

The actress is no stranger to singing. She lent her voice to “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” in the 2005 movie Hustle & Flow, which she also starred in. She also worked as a singing and dancing waiter on a dinner cruise ship to put herself through Howard University.

But on Monday, her rep said the actress was probably “kidding” about the record deal and that no deal had been struck. Time will tell if we’ll hear more of Taraji’s singing voice soon.
