The Brooklyn-based firebrands will open for Lupe Fiasco.
Kanye and Jay-Z will be celebrating the over-the-top opulence of Watch the Throne at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Monday, November 7. But that same night, another hip hop concert with quite a different message will be going down just a mile away. As we reported last week, Lupe Fiasco will be headlining a benefit for Transform America that night at New York's Terminal 5. And now the benefit is getting a boost with the addition of another politically charged hip hop game-changer: dead prez.
Transform America recently announced that the outspoken Brooklyn-based duo would be rounding out the benefit event, which already includes Lupe, Brooklyn soulstress Maya Azucena and singer-poet Shanelle Gabriel. In June of last year, the DPGz celebrated the 10th anniversary of their landmark debut album Let’s Get Free with the release of Turn Off the Radio Vol 4: Revolutionary But Gangsta Grillz in collaboration with DJ Drama.
Transform America is a Harlem-based non-profit that aims to advance social justice and human rights through partnerships with a wide-ranging network of activists and non-profits. For more information, go to TransformAmerica.org.
The Transform America Moving Minds Benefit Concert will raise both funds and awareness for the organization’s Moving Minds Mentorship and Youth Council programs. For tickets or more information, go to www.ticketmaster.com.
