Having achieved blockbuster success in the music industry, Birdman is out to make an actual blockbuster. The Cash Money Records founder recently told XXL that he wants to shoot a movie this year starring the Young Money Cash Money Billionaires.
“We start shooting that in the fall,” Birdman said of the film, currently titled Rich Gang. “That’s the whole team, that’s like a 2012 Balla Blocking. The Rich Gang movie is about the team. Everybody is going to be the star of it, but [Lil] Wayne will be the center of it. It’s about the team, everybody that’s on the label.”
The movie will be produced Cash Money Films, a new studio founded by the music mogul. Another film, set to star Omar Epps, is also in the works at the studio with producer Tracy Edmonds.
For Rich Gang, Birdman said he wants to take a naturalistic approach to portraying the lives of the YMCMB crew, which includes Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, Jay Sean and several others.
“I would like them to just be themselves,” he said. “I’m not gonna tell no n***a to go to acting school. Just be yourself. We’re excited as a brand about it. Tyga, everybody is like, ‘Stunna, let’s do a movie.’ We got a few of them lined up and we gonna shoot them.”
In the future, Birdman said he'd like to make other films based on the books of street lit author Wahida Clark, who recently signed a deal with Cash Money's publishing arm, Cash Money Content.
