Queen of Disco Donna Summer died Thursday morning (May 17) in Florida after losing a battle with cancer reports TMZ.

The five-time Grammy winner, known for her singles "Last Dance," "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls," was the reigning queen of disco from the 1970s to the early 1980s. She was also the first female to have four No. 1 singles in a 13-month period.

When disco began to wane, Summer was one of the few stars who successfully transitioned with the changing style of popular music, releasing hits in the 1980s like "She Works Hard for the Money" and "Love is in Control." The longevity and success of her career in disco could only be rivaled by that of the Bee Gees.

Her family released a statement, saying that they "are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy."

Summer released her 17th and final studio album Crayons in 2008.
