Kanye West Premieres Short Film in Cannes With Kim, Jay-Z at His Side
After months of rumors and speculation, Kanye West unveiled his latest film project at a star-studded premiere in Cannes last night. The movie, titled Cruel Summer, was projected on seven strategically placed screens and has been described as a short film-art installation.
At a special tent set up along the beach that flanks the annual French film festival, West showed up early with new girlfriend Kim Kardashian on his arm, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jay-Z and Aziz Ansari were also in attendance as were Kid Cudi and Big Sean, both of whom make appearances in the film.
The story is said to follow the exploits of a car thief (Kid Cudi) who gets entangled with a beautiful and mysterious blind woman played by Lebanese actress Razane Jammal. The seven screens are used to provide multiple angles on each scene, and the film makes heavy use of sound and music. THR says the film clocks in at less that 30 minutes.
After the screening, Kanye said the movie wasn't yet finished, calling it a "rough draft." He said it was his dream to create a fully immersive film experience that may one day be the norm in theaters.
