While promoting her debut album, Ora, Roc Nation songstress Rita Ora cleared up rumors about a feud between her and Rihanna. In an interview with Complex magazine, the rising star said, “Everyone thought that we hated each other, but the whole thing was created by the media. That’s what’s so funny.”
The British singer and her team seem to have nothing but respect for Rih Rih, as the young pop queen has become an international sensation. Her work ethic has struck Roc Nation as admirable, and a model for rising stars like Rita.
“When Rihanna came out we heard the Beyoncé comparisons. People jump to that when it’s someone they don’t know. Like, ‘Oh, that’s that girl who wants to be Beyoncé.’ Now they’re saying the same thing about Rita, that she’s the new Rihanna,” said “Ty-Ty” Smith, a partner in Roc Nation.
Ora’s tattoos, edgy fashion sense and blonde hair made it easy to compare her to the Bajan pop star. However, Smith thinks the chatter will die down once the world really learns who Rita is.
“[Rita] just has to show them who she is and she will be fine. I admire Rihanna. She works her a-- off. She hasn’t had a break and she has given people hit after hit after hit. That work ethic and discipline is hardcore. That’s the kind of s--t that I want to do. That I will do,” explained Smith.
Rita will have the chance to prove herself on August 27, when her upcoming album is released. Perhaps the Rihanna comparisons will halt the. But for now, it’s clear that there’s no beef.
