Slim Thug paid a recent visit to Houston’s 97.9 The Box to discuss his newest book, How to Survive in a Recession, and the topic of abortion. The rapper-turned-author dedicated a whole chapter to the taboo issue in his financial guide, and believes that sometimes abortion is necessary, especially if the child won’t have two parents.

“I think abortion is necessary on some occasions. People be against it, but people don’t deal with the real life situations some people deal with,” said the hip hop artist. “I don’t think it’s right, I don’t think it’s good to have a baby and not be with the father. That’s part of the biggest problem.”

The Houston rapper went on to reflect on his childhood, where he was raised by a single mother and never knew his father. The scenario has become a common reality for black children, as many are born to single mothers.

“My mother, she took care of me, but she was working seven days a week, 12 hours a day. That was a struggle, I seen how much she struggled and it was so hard coming up. I don’t even know who my daddy is. I don’t like that. I think a kid deserves both his parents. That’s why I think if you ain’t gonna be with somebody, you don’t need to have a kid with him,” he explained.

While comparing abortion to birth control “if it’s immediate,” Slim admits that he does have three baby mamas and says that, while it’s working out, it still isn’t right. He crafted his book to help struggling rappers get their money right, which according to him includes limiting fatherhood opportunities.
