Lu reveals what he has planned for life after leaving hip hop.
Lupe Fiasco has been flirting with the idea of retirement from the rap game for some time now. With the release of his fourth studio album coming tomorrow, the independent-minded rapper revisited the issue in a recent interview with Australia's Music Feeds TV.
According to Lupe, he's contractually obligated to produce two more albums after Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1. One of those will be Pt. 2 and the other will be a different record currently titled Skulls. Lupe says both projects are already nearly done.
"Contractually, I still have to do another record if the label picks it up. But even after this part one and part two [of Food & Liquor 2] I'm basically kind of done, because that album [Skulls] is even almost finished," he said.
Once the music he's currently working on is finished, Lupe said he would cease making hip hop for commercial purposes, only returning to the mic if he felt artistically moved. Instead, he said he would focus more on his various other music projects, including his electronic DJ act SNDCLSH and punk band Japanese Cartoon.
"I don't even know if Lupe Fiasco is gonna exist after Skulls, I might even just do a name change or something like that," Lupe teased. "If I feel like making a rap album, then I'll make it."
